Thank you for this information, it was super helpful. We were able to get a site for 2 nights this summer, in late June. We can't wait!

In reply to <a href="http://www.ktnpblog.com/acadia-duck-harbor-campground/#comment-23868">Meredith</a>.

Hiking is definitely the main activity on the island, though exploring the rocky beaches nearby is also fun and your kids might enjoy that. There was a junior ranger program where kids could earn a Junior Ranger badge by collecting trash that washed up on the shores too (not sure if it is still around).

One night to us is too short, with traveling all the way there on the boat. But, if you don't mind that and can get there early enough to enjoy it, then you could do one night there. Blackwoods and Schoodic Woods Campgrounds are quite different than Duck Harbor. If your kids also enjoy solitude and relaxing, then they may even find they enjoy Duck Harbor more. Plus, it's an adventure to get there.

Good luck!

Would you say it would be enough to go for just one night or would two be best? We're going with kids who don't like to hike and it seems that hiking is the main activity there so I was thinking one night might be enough (we would spend a few nights at blackwoods and schoodic woods campgrounds in addition to duck harbor).

Check out the "Bob's Arch's website" He describes both "Ring Arch" and "Wedding Ring Arch" in Canyonlands. Example = https://www.naturalarches.org/BobsArches/NeedlesRing.html

Hi Gregory, sorry for the delay. Yes, I had difficulty determining the exact name of that arch. The reason I went with Wedding Ring Arch, was because that was in the "Canyonlands National Park: Favorite Jeep Roads & Hiking Trails" book by David Day (http://www.utahtrails.com/Canyonlands%20pages/Salt-Creek-Trail.html). It was also named that in other sources/blogs. But, I also saw the other arch with the same name of "Wedding Ring Arch" in my research, so definitely some confusion.

Do you know of any "official" sources for the "Ring Arch" name? Thanks!

Awesome write-up. I wanted to let you know that I believe what you are calling "Wedding Ring Arch" is actually just "Ring Arch". There's a different Wedding Ring Arch nearby. Can you confirm and update your website before more people get confused? Thanks so much!

I stumbled across your blog while planning a backpacking trip on the western side of Skyline. I absolutely love how your rich experience fills out the details you carefully include. While there is much to celebrate in what you have shared, the map of dispersed camping locations proved surprisingly useful to us. Normally, we hunt for spots about 90 minutes before sunset, which sometimes leaves us short of daylight or level ground. However, your map was perfect. Being able to plan each evening's campsite with confidence alleviated a lot of anxiety for my less experienced companion. Many, many thanks! Happy trails.

Hi! We took a bus from the Shinhotaka Ropeway (HO65) bus stop to Toyama. That line is no longer running, unfortunately, but there are other buses that can get you to/from Shinhotaka. For example, take a look at this one:

https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/route_bus/shinhotaka-line-en/

One of the stops on that route is to Hirayu Onsen where you can switch buses to get back to Kamikochi (https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/route_bus/kamikochi-line-en/). Or you can go all the way to Takayama and switch buses to get back to most major cities, like Tokyo (https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/english/highwaybus/).

Hope that helps!
